On the way to the patio. I bumped the spotter scope and didn’t double check. Spent a whole session pointed at some nice random stars. I definitely learned a valuable lesson.
I also tried to use a LPF/UHC filter…I should probably focus on getting the best shots with the least amount of gear and move my way up.
The next clear night (23 March 2021) I aligned the spotter but used ISO 1600 + Live View and the focus was off.
This session was the first where I had ready: Light, Dark, Bias, and Flat Frames to process in Siril.
Lesson learned, focus focus focus.
Though, I learned some Siril tricks using wavelets and deconvolution filters. It helped, but still needed a sharp original. I can appreciate the colors and interesting details but it is amazing how much focus counts!
To help with focus, I got a Bahtinov Filter. This filter is specially helpful when you are using a DSLR mounted on your scope and using Live View.
When you’re using the Bahtinov Filter, you use a bright star(s) to get the diffraction pattern. The goal is to get the longer spike in the middle of the two smaller X spikes.
Until next time..
